Letting a child move the scenes does not make the story less reverent. It gives them a way to slow down and tell what happened.

Place one scene at a time and read its passage together. Ask what happened, who obeyed, and what the scene teaches about Jesus. At the end, remove the pieces and let the child rebuild the whole sequence from memory.
