VBS Take Home Gifts That Last Beyond The Week

Quick answer
Vacation Bible School is a week of organized joy. By Friday night, the volunteers are exhausted, the snack table is empty, and the kids have learned more than they're going to say out loud. Then everyone goes home. The take-home bag is where most of that week dies.

Vacation Bible School is a week of organized joy. By Friday night, the volunteers are exhausted, the snack table is empty, and the kids have learned more than they're going to say out loud. Then everyone goes home.
The take-home bag is where most of that week dies. Foam crafts break in the car. Worksheets get recycled. A small photo button from the week — group photos by class, a snapshot of a Bible verse memory game, a candid from skit night — is the piece that survives, and it keeps a kid talking about VBS into the school year.
Planning the take-home before the week starts
The mistake most VBS teams make is deciding on the souvenir on Thursday. Decide in the spring, tell your photographer what you need, and the week runs itself.
- Assign one volunteer per day to shoot class group photos — same spot, same time, no exceptions.
- Pick one keepsake format and stick to it: a button per child is fastest, a magnet per child lasts longer.
- Photograph the volunteers too. Their keepsake is what gets them to come back next summer.
- Send proofs to parents by email so nobody's child is missing from the batch.
Pairing the souvenir with the lesson
A photo button says the week happened. A lesson keepsake says what the week was about. Churches running an Ephesians 6 or David-and-Goliath week often send kids home with both — the photo of their class and a piece of the story they can rebuild on the fridge. If that's your theme, see our bible lesson keepsakes guide for how the pieces are used at home.
Why the lesson matters longer than the week
That's really the goal behind any VBS lesson worth keeping. 'Continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of... how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures' (2 Timothy 3:14-15, NIV). A week of VBS isn't meant to end when the week does.
Why photo buttons travel further than you'd think
Custom photo buttons are small, wearable, and easy to hand out — which is exactly why they have such a long life. People pin them to backpacks, lanyards, jacket lapels, memory boards, and bulletin boards in church fellowship halls. A button moves through a community in ways a card or a flyer never could.
You bring the photograph and the moment. We help with sizing, layout, and the subtle design choices that keep the focus on the face, the feeling, the message. The button becomes the little reminder that travels home in someone's pocket.
Moments that whisper are worth remembering. Because moments fade. Love doesn't.

What are good VBS take home gifts?
+
Something photographic and durable. A photo button or magnet of each child's VBS class outlasts foam crafts and gives parents a reason to ask about the week.
How far ahead should a church order VBS keepsakes?
+
Send photos the week of VBS if you want them handed out at the closing program, or order the following week for a Sunday distribution. Production plus shipping is 7-10 business days after proof approval.
Can you do a different photo for each child?
+
Yes. Most churches send us class group shots and we press one keepsake per child, so every kid goes home with their own group in their own hand.
