All Scripture, No Commentary

Sometimes the clearest teaching choice is restraint: the verse, the reference, and enough visual structure to help a child return to it.

That does not mean explanation is unimportant. It means the explanation happens in conversation, with an open Bible, instead of being permanently printed as though one person's commentary were part of the text.

Scripture is the source

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16, NIV). A Scripture-first piece should make the reference easy to find so a family or class can read the surrounding passage rather than treating one line as decoration.

A visible verse is a prompt, not the whole lesson

One verse on the fridge can reopen a conversation at breakfast, after school, or while packing lunch. It cannot provide every historical detail or answer every question. That is why the healthiest use is simple: notice the verse, read the passage, then talk about what it says.

When commentary belongs somewhere else

Teachers may want prompts, definitions, or questions in a separate guide. Parents may explain a word differently for a preschooler than for an older child. Keeping those supports separate lets the same verse remain useful across ages without crowding the object children see every day.

What to check before choosing a Scripture piece

Clarity matters more than decoration. Before choosing, confirm the following:

• The translation is named
• The reference is accurate and readable
• The design does not add a quotation Scripture never says
• The piece points back to a fuller Bible reading
